California Energy Commission Releases New Standards
The California Energy Commission has released the new Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Standards), which took effect January 1, 2010.  The California Energy Commission develops the Standards to provide Californians with an adequate, reasonably-priced, and environmentally-sound supply of energy.   Standards implementation enhances California’s energy policy that identifies energy efficiency as the resource of first choice in meeting the state’s energy need.

The Standards for residential and nonresidential buildings were developed in response to a legislative mandate to reduce California’s energy consumption.  Periodic updates allow consideration and possible incorporation of new energy efficiency technologies and methods.

The 2008 Building Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings document is required for compliance and enforcement of the new Standards, which supersede the 2005 Standards.  All 2008 documents are available on the Energy Commission’s Website at http://www.energy.ca.gov/title24/
